Martin F. Jarrold is Distinguished Professor Emeritus and Robert & Marjorie Mann Chair of Chemistry at Indiana University. He is an internationally recognized physical and analytical chemist and the inventor of ELIT-based charge detection mass spectrometry (CDMS), which extends mass spectrometry to extremely large and heterogeneous systems. He received his B.Sc. in Molecular Sciences in 1977 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1980 from the University of Warwick, followed by postdoctoral work at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and research at AT&T Bell Laboratories. He made pioneering contributions to ion mobility theory and high-resolution CDMS, enabling accurate analysis of viruses, viral vectors, vaccines, lipoproteins, and nanoparticles. He has authored more than 280 peer-reviewed publications and helped drive the commercialization of CDMS instrumentation.
