推动中国文学的海外交流

SHINE报道 A conference was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University over the weekend to discuss works by Jia Pingwa, famous Chinese writer and vice president of China Writers Association, and international influence of Chinese literature.

Jia shared his own experience of writing at the two-day event, which attracted more than 600 people.

Jia said Chinese literature now has little influence on other countries, so Chinese writers must improve themselves so as to promote the international influence of Chinese literature.

Jia is one of the most productive and influential writers in China. He published his 16th full-length novel earlier this year.

Chen Zhongyi, head of the foreign literature study center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said Jia and Chinese literature are underrated in the world.

Sun Huijun, a professor at Shanghai International Studies University, said translators play the most important role in spreading Chinese literature overseas and promoting communication between Chinese and foreign literature.
